Speech and Language Therapy

Effective communication is an essential part of human interaction and functioning, particularly in the areas of learning and social performance. Like any other skill, not all individuals are as well versed as others in these vital areas. Speech therapy addresses these deficits, focusing on providing services and supports for children with communication disorders and their families. Addressing delays and disorders in communication, language, speech, early literacy skills, feeding, and swallowing, our team of certified speech and language therapists take great care in providing the most cutting edge, evidence-based therapies available to our clients and their families.

We feel that family involvement in the planning and implementation of any program is an essential element for success. Parents and guardians are provided the help and advice they need to create language and literacy rich environments. We collaborate with families, teachers, other educational specialists, and paraprofessionals to better enhance a child’s performance in the school setting. Some of the therapies and interventions we provide are:

  • Understanding spoken language (receptive language)
  • The ability to express thoughts, ideas, and feelings (expressive language)
  • Social use of language (pragmatic language)
  • Enhancing listening skills
  • Articulation/Phonological therapy to address errors in speech sounds
  • Aural rehabilitation (for children who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have cochlear implants)
  • Reading and writing development (literacy)
  • Stuttering and cluttering
  • Nasal resonance therapy associated with cleft palate

Carefully planned play with a purpose supports learning, retention and carryover into familiar to preferred activities.
